(d) How have the scientific achievements in a Golden Age benefited society today? Explain using examples from one early civilisation that you have studied. (6 marks)
• China. Gunpowder has benefited society because it is still used in fireworks and modem weaponry.

• The mechanical clock has benefited society as scientists have refined this invention so that time is accurately measured today.
OR•
The seismograph has benefited society as humans have improved on this invention to make more accurate measurements of the seriousness of an earthquake.
• India. The invention of the numeric system has helped with the development of mathematics.
• Southeast Asia. The invention of hydraulic engineering is still used for gathering, storing and re-directing of water supply today.
