Answer the following questions in complete sentences.(a) Explain in your own words the meaning of Golden Age. (2 marks) A Golden Age is a period of peace, stability and prosperity that enables science and the arts to flourish. (b) Identify one period of Golden Age in India and China and state some achievements ofthe period. (4 marks) India: Gupta empire. Some achievements in the Gupta empire are the casting of iron and the invention of the numeric system. China: Tang dynasty. Some achievements during the Tang dynasty are the invention of block printing and the writing of the Diamond Sutra. (Award 1 mark for each correctly identified Golden Age and 1 mark for each achievement mentioned up to a maximum of 4 marks. Accept any other correct period and achievements.) (c) What conditions are necessary for a Golden Age to develop? Explain your answer. (6 marks) •The conditions are generally peace, stability, prosperity and a stable and efficient government.•People do not have to worry about basic needs if the country’s economy is prospering.• They will not worry about safety or security if there is peace and law and order. As a result, theyhave more time to think about how to improve their lives.• If there are no revolts, the government will have more time and mdney to promote the arts andscience. (Accept any other reasonable answers. Award 2 marks for each elaborated condition up to a maximum of 6 marks.) |
